To tell the truth, I have never studied abroad. My first encounter with English was in junior high school. In my first year of junior high school, I had a very interesting homeroom teacher whose lessons were also quite enjoyable, so I quickly grew to like English. From my second year of high school, I started to attend an English conversation school, then after that I studied in a more professional and formal setting in university.

As a part of the university course, we went on a three week trip to England, during which time, I was able to strike up conversations with many of the locals. The experience was so enjoyable that it made me want to speak English fluently, so I devoted myself to studying. I think that being able to enjoy studying itself is the key.

実は私には留学経験がありません。英語には中学校で初めて触れました。
一年生の時の担任がとても面白い英語の先生で、授業も楽しかったのですぐに英語が好きになりました。高校2年生から英会話学校に通い、その後大学で専門的に学びました。授業の一環で３週間のイギリス旅行をした時に現地の人達に積極的に話しかけました。それがとても楽しくて、もっと話せるようになりたいと思い、頑張って勉強しました。楽しんで学ぶことが大事だと思います。

“Studying English is fundamentally about remembering new vocabulary”.
However this kind of thinking is quite problematic. Not only is simple memorization not fun at all, but it's also a shame that you will forget it rather quickly.

So, what should you do? Try to remember new words in the context of a sentence. I recite example sentences over and over, as well as writing my own sentences that I think could be used naturally in conversation. This also makes for great speaking practice!

英語学習の基本は “単語を覚えること”。でもそれがなかなか大変ですよね。
ただ単語だけを暗記するのは全く楽しくないですし、すぐに忘れてしまいます。悲しい。。。
では、どうしたらいいの？私は文章とセットで覚えるようにしています。
例文や、会話で使えそうな自分で作った文章を繰り返し声に出して暗唱します。
これはスピーキングの練習にもなるのでいいですよ！

Don’t worry about making mistakes in class; just keep trying to speak out loud! After all, it’s through making mistakes that you learn. Please practice and repeat the phrases that you worked so hard to learn. Try to find new and different phrases that you find interesting or want to use, repeat the process and master those phrases.

One other important thing is to practice speaking out loud clearly and loudly, I feel that it is strongly linked to increasing confidence.

レッスンでは間違いを気にしないで、どんどん口に出して言ってみることです!
間違えたことで正しい使い方を知ることが出来るからです。
せっかく知った正しい表現は繰り返し練習してくださいね。
それを続けていって、自分がよく使いそうなフレーズや色々なフレーズをマスターしていきましょう。
もう１つ大事なことは、しっかりはっきり声に出して練習することです。
自信にも繋がっていくと私は思っています。

I love travelling, and I have visited 11 countries and regions starting with my first experience in England; then France, America, Singapore and others.
My recommendation is Hawaii. I’m always raring to go as soon as I can!!
Guam, where I took my first vacation with my family, is a great place and it’s close to boot. The locals will speak Japanese to Japanese people, but if you respond in English, they will switch over and you can enjoy some nice light-hearted conversation.


旅行が大好きで、私にとって初めての外国のイギリス、フランス、アメリカ、シンガポールなど今までに11の国、地域に行きました。
オススメは、やはりハワイです。すぐにでも飛んでいきたいです!!
また、初めての家族との外国旅行にはグアムもいいですよ。近いですしね。
現地の人達は日本人には日本語で話しかけてきますが、英語で答えるともちろん英語で返してくれるので、気軽に会話を楽しめますよ。

I’m quite good at making sweets. I love English, but I also love making sweets, so at the end of high school when I was deciding which schools to apply to, I also considered some patisserie schools. *smile* I often make sweets on my days off, so that I can enjoy a nice “Home Café.”

お菓子作りが得意です。英語が大好きなのですが、お菓子作りも大好きで、高校後の進学先を選ぶときにパティシエの学校も気になりました:-)
休日にはよくお菓子を作って、おうちカフェを楽しんでいます。
